*WITEZ II, was an Arabian stallion whose life story is right our of an adventure novel. Although *Witez II has been dead for more than 40 years, his influence is still very strong in a large number of today's National Champion horses' pedigrees. The *Witez II bloodline is unsurpassed in the production of Champion Endurance and Competitive Trail horses.

A *Witez II son that very important to the Freeman Arabians breeding program is Bolero (x Nafalla). Bolero sired Xenophonn (x Farviews Kamal), known as "The Doc Bar of Arabians" because of his production of the majority of Arabian National Champion cutting horses. Bolero also sired Zarabo (x Rizara), the 1967 U.S Reserve National Champion Arabian Stallion. Zarabo was also a champion cutting horse following his halter career.

The black *Witez II son Nitez ( x Nafa) has a major role in our *Witez II horses. Nitez was the sire of Niga (x Galena). Both our senior stallion  is linebred to Niga and two of our best producing broodmares were Niga granddaughters. The most of the black genes in our breeding program come from Nitez.

Nitez's dam was Nafa (x Narasa). Nafa is a very important mare line for Freeman Arabians, as she was in the overall success of *Witez II as a sire. Nafa was the origin of the *Witez II/*Raseyn Golden Cross which was so successful in the 1960s and continues to influence Arabian breeding today.

The overwhelming number of *Raseyn daughters bred to *Witez II proved to be a powerful nick, becoming known as the Golden Cross. The *Witez II/*Raseyn Golden Cross has produced a huge number of champion performance horses, especially in Endurance Racing and Competitive Trail competition.

Daughters of another Skowronek son, *Raffles (x *Rifala), also proved to be a powerful nick with *Witez II. Whereas *Raseyn passed on terrific athletic abilities, *Raffles transmitted great beauty. When bred to *Raffles daughters, *Witez II produced pretty athletes.

The *Witez II/*Raffles cross is greatly favored by Arabian cutting horse breeders. Somewhat smaller than their *Raseyn-bred siblings, the *Witez II/*Raffles horses are more compact and quicker on their feet, enabling them to work cattle more efficiently than the larger *Witez II/ *Raseyn horses.

Because of the success of these two "Golden Crosses" and the rarity of pure Polish Arabian mares at the time *Witez II was alive, *Witez II is rarely found in pure Polish Arabian pedigrees.

It needs to be remembered: When bred to *Raseyn and *Raffles daughters, *Witez II was siring Arabians which were, at the very least, 3/4 Polish. *Raseyn and *Raffles were 1/2 Polish. Their sire was Skowronek.

Skowronek was bred at Antoniny in Poland. Although never used as a sire in Poland, when Skowronek was exported to England and found his way to the Crabbet Park Arabian Stud, he became the most influential breeding stallion the Arabian breed has ever known.

*Witez II blood was first brought into the Freeman Arabians breeding program with the purchase of a *Bask granddaughter, Bassandra (Rochambeau x Kassandra). "Sandy" was in foal to Count Niga (Niga x Kal-A-Tez), the 1987 US and Canadian National Champion Competitive Trail Horse, and 1986 NATRC National Champion Competitive Trail Horse. We purchased Sandy as a 3-in-1 package prior to her foaling. She foaled Ofir Mistala, a red-gold chestnut filly so beautiful that we had Sandy bred back to Count Niga. The result of that mating was another beauty. A bay filly we named Azrahami Free.

We liked these two fillies so much, we began looking for a stallion to breed to them. In 1987 we found a 4-month old blue-black colt in North Dakota. LR Kailai Witez has nearly the identical pedigree as Count Niga, ten years later. Kailai's sire is also a Niga son, and Kailai's dam is a Kal-A-Tez granddaughter.

The breeding of LR Kailai Witez with Ofir Mistala and Azrahami Free produced four black colts, two from each mare. This mating also produced a black-bay colt from Azrahami Free. Sadly, both mares had to be put down due to complications from founder, which both had been suffering for many years.

The Bolero line first came to Freeman Arabians in 1995 with purchase of WitezaQuatraCroce, a granddaughter.  When we purchased our CMK mare Fae Farwa, she had a Xenophonn colt at foot.  We sold Free Zee to Wade Allred.  We bred Shadow Bay Free to Free Zee and got Sparkle Free who has joined out broodmare band.

We purchased Serrif Witezza from Ayres Acres Arabians also in 1995.  She brought in the blood of *Witez II through his sons Yatez, Hirzan and a new Nitez line through his daughter Trideza. In 2004 we purchased Serya Jaytez as a yearling colt.  His sire, Serya Raven, is a 3/4 brother to Serrif Witezza.  Jaytez carries additional lines to *Witez II through sons Utez and Casino, plus a line through a daughter, Tezka.
