The Miss Bay Bee Family

MISS BAY BEE 098030
(Pico Bay Bee x Mincy) 5/9/1973 - 7/22/2002 Bay mare 14.1 HH

Miss Bay Bee was our Foundation Mare.  Bay's pedigree is deep in Crabbet breeding, through the Kellogg and Hearst breeding programs.  On July 22, 2002, Miss Bay Bee passed away while at pasture with all her family and friends.  She was 29 years old. She is greatly missed but we are very thankful we have her 3 daughters and their foals to carry on her bloodline.

Bay was one of the best! Freeman Arabians have kept all three of her daughters and her two granddaughters.  All of Bay's sons were gelded because we did not have any facilities for stallions when they were mature. They have been sold, each to loving families. Her best son, Star Duster Free, was used for Competitive Trail riding and then for Dressage, an activity which he became very good at.  All of Bay's progeny have inherited her wonderful disposition. Except for her oldest daughter, Fancey Free, all her other foals inherited her bay color. Bay did everything she was ever asked to do and more.

Bay's "other job" was teaching our children and grand children to love and ride horses.  Our youngest grandsons, Tyrel and Kyle (age 13 and 10 at the time), would take turns riding Bay in her 170 acre pasture, bareback without any tack.  They would boost each other onto her back.  Then Bay would take each boy all over the pasture until she decided he had ridden enough.  At that point, Bay walked to a certain corner of the pasture near their house, stopped and didn't move until her rider dismounted.  Then it was the other boy's turn to ride and the whole procedure is repeated.  In this old photo, Bay and her lifelong friend Pia Taurus are giving lessons to our oldest grandsons, Travis (on Bay) and Cameron Stout. Taurus has gone on to Greener Pastures, the boys are all growing up and Miss Bay Bee has joined Taurus.

Bay is a perfect example of the joy of being loved by a true Bedouin Treasure, the wonderful Arabian Mare.

FANCEY FREE 352026
(Zeus x Miss Bay Bee) 5/23/86 Grey mare 15.0 HH

Following three colts, Fancey was the first filly out of our foundation mare, Miss Bay Bee. Fancey is a big, correct mare with a fantastic disposition and she produces size. The dam of four foals, Fancey is line-bred to *Raseyn and Rabiyas, proven performance bloodlines.

Fancey's sire, Zeus was 1977 U.S. Reserve National Champion IAHA Competitive Trail Horse. Fancey's paternal grand sire, Ramly, was bred by the famous W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Ranch. Fancey is an invaluable source of old American foundation breeding.

In this photo, Fancey is with her 1993 colt, Storm Free when he was only 10 hours old. See a photo of Fancey as a four-year-old with her pedigree.

SHADOW BAY FREE 475161
(BF Triumph x Miss Bay Bee) 4/24/91 Bay mare.

The second daughter of our Foundation Mare, Shadow Bay Free is the dam of two foals sired by Free Zee (Xenophonn x Fae Farwa) and a terrific 1999 colt sired by Hucks Premier V. Shadow's only filly so far is Sparkle Free. Shown on this page, "Sparky" is the very best filly we have bred to date.

Like her dam, Shadow is producing more colts than fillies. Shadow's first foal was Star Zee Free, now a gelding that is well on his way to becoming a very important part of our family. Shadow's third foal is our beautiful Amigo Free and is showing great promise as our next herd sire.

Shadow excels as a saddle horse. Put into training as a four-year-old, Shadow was being ridden by her trainer's five-year-old daughter after only two weeks. A proven "Kid's Horse", Shadow is carrying on her dam's tradition as the Perfect Family Arabian.

As if a wonderful disposition and terrific progeny were not enough, Shadow is a correct and beautiful mare. A granddaughter of Gai-Parada and the incomparable Dam of Significance, Gaffi. Shadow's pedigree is a Who's Who of Arabian horses. Ferzon, *Raffles, Bay-Abi+, Rabiyas, and *Raseyn are very close up in her pedigree.

Shadow is being bred to the LR Kailai Witez son, Surprise Free for a 2008 foal.

DAWN FREE 497332
(BF Triumph x Miss Bay Bee) 6/11/93 Bay mare.

Dawn Free is a full sister to Shadow Bay Free and the last foal out of our Foundation Mare. Dawn is Miss Bay Bee's most look-alike daughter, being nearly identical in color, body type and disposition. Dawn has a Classic CMK Pedigree.

Dawn is started under saddle when she was three years old.  We were given an unexpected opportunity to breed Dawn to Hucks Premier V using transported semen, so she hasn't been ridden since her training ended.  Like Dawn, Hucks Premier V is a great grandget of Bay-Abi+. By adding another line to Bay-Abi+ to our breeding program, we are perpetuating the disposition we value so much and the substance and conformation so necessary to be a Working Arabian.

In 1999, Dawn's first foal was born. Of course it was a colt!  MoJo Free is another special Family Arabian with a disposition just like his Grandma Bay.

Dawn is also being bred to the LR Kailai Witez son, Surprise Free for a 2008 foal.  We were getting ready to breed Dawn and Shadow to Kailai when he got hurt and subsequently had to be put down.  John and Kathy Brower, Brower Ranch Arabians have kindly granted us breeding service to Surprise, who is not available to the general public.

SPIRIT FREE

SPIRIT FREE 524388
(LR Kailai Witez x Fancey Free) 6/21/95 Bay filly.

These candid photos were taken on November 5, 1998. Spirit is growing up to be a real beauty. Only a three-year-old in the photos, Spirit should mature near 15.0 HH. She has a lot of substance, yet is very feminine.

Spirit is sired by our champion cutting horse and out of our tallest mare. Spirit's dam Fancey Free is an honest 15.0 HH without shoes. Fancey is a daughter of Zeus, a U.S. National Reserve Champion Competitive Trail horse. Spirit has a pleasing disposition and excellent conformation.

Spirit is CMK/*Witez II breeding and with a pedigree and the athletic ability to guarantee excellence in performance events. She is especially well suited for Trail riding. Spirit is only the second filly out of Fancey. The first filly, Freya Free, was sold and is now in Wyoming.

Spirit's dam is getting to the age where we need to think about finding a replacement for her. We can't do much better than her own daughter. We have decided to keep Spirit for our breeding program.

UPDATE:  In the Fall of 2006, Spirit Free was euthanized because of a choke injury to the nerves of her epiglotis, which could not be healed or repaired.  Her loss is dearly felt, especially since we never got a foal from Spirit.

SPARKLE FREE 545374
(Free Zee x Shadow Bay Free) 5/25/97 Bay filly.

Sparkle Free is one of those horses that just has to help me take pictures.  As a result, I haven't been about to get a current photo of her.  Even non-horse people pick "Sparky" out of the herd as the prettiest horse in the pasture. She is absolutely beautiful with a presence that says, "Look at ME!". Sparky is a bright bay with a big star, snip and four matched socks. She has a beautiful head, long refined neck, nice topline and excellent legs.

Sparky may be our first halter show horse. Her lovable disposition, correct conformation, and beauty assure Sparky a permanent home at Freeman Arabians. Both of her Grandmothers are our Foundation Mares. Sparky's maternal grandsire, BF Triumph, was our first herd sire.  Her sire line goes to *Witez II in the fourth generation and the balance of her pedigree is CMK. Her performance pedigree and beauty assure Sparkle Free a future as a broodmare for Freeman Arabians.

Sparky is currently on lease to Brower Ranch Arabians for 2007/2008 as a broodmare.  She is being bred to Surprise Free, the oldest whole son of our foundation stallion, LR Kailai Witez.  While in Wyoming with John and Kathy, Sparky will be trained as a working ranch horse.
